The 2017 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) has just begun (as of today's print) and it's an exciting one for Toyota. And while we will do a full recap of the highlights (as we did for Detroit's 2017 NAIAS) upon its conclusion, we thought we'd give our faithful readers a sneak peak at what's in store for the week ahead at one of the best car shows on earth.
Top Featured Toyota Vehicles at the 2017 New York International Auto Show
2017 Toyota 4Runner
The new 4Runner is hitting the runway at the 2017 NYIAS and is making a splash with a new grade dynamic duo - the 4Runner TRD Off-Road and TRD Off-Road Premium. The best vehicle for living on the road (and off-road) has been ramped up with tough body-on-frame construction, skid plates, and independent double-wishbone front/4-link plus coil-spring rear suspension. The TRD Off-Road features a Multi-Terrain Select system and lever-type transfer case that allows drivers to switch to a lower range which helps manage the roughest roads ahead.
2017 Toyota 86
The new Toyota 86 leads the pack of most exciting new Toyota cars for 2017 and is considered to the top mass-market sports car of the same year. Combining the history of Toyota's 2000GT, Sports 800 and AE86, this masterpiece is a race car made for everyday enthusiasts. The ultra-lightweight body, rear-wheel drive chassis with dynamic handling, sport-tuned suspension, vehicle stability control with Track Mode, body-strength reinforcement, and 2.0-liter flat-four engine offers unparalleled performance and handling in its class. And, it's simply gorgeous.
2017 Camry Hybrid
The 2018 (yes, '18) Camry reveal was a big deal at the Detroit NIAAS, with the near future's LE, XLE, SE, XSE and NASCAR Camry being unveiled on stage. However, there's no time like the present and that's why the 2017 Camry Hybrid is being presented at this year's NYIAS. This vehicle is one of the top hybrids of the annum, thanks to dynamic suspension tuning, a stability control system, and a Hybrid Synergy Drive system that includes ECO and EVO Modes. The result is a gas and electric motor output that delivers an impressive 200 horsepower while maintaining an EPA-estimated 42 mpg (city). Available in XLE and SE, the Camry Hybrid is capable of accelerating from 0-to-60 mph in 7.6 seconds. This is one of the most impressive yet practical hybrids on the market to date.
2017 Prius Prime
The new Prius Prime is being featured at the 2017 NYIAS and will be making its way into our hybrid line-up soon enough. What can you expect? A hybrid with an EPA-estimated 54 mpg city and impressive driving range of 640 miles (1030 km) thanks to an improved EV Mode battery capacity. For all of its performance and handling, what really impresses is the beautiful design. This Prius is unlike any predecessor. It has a completely revamped front and rear, features advanced Quad-LED projector headlights, LED taillights and signals, and an aerodynamic rear glass and hatch. The performance and design are electrifying, literally and figuratively.
2017 Toyota FT X4
It may sound (and look like) a machine from an up and coming Star Wars release but you don't need to venture into a galaxy far away to appreciate this vehicle. The FT X4 is being unleashed at the 2017 NYIAS and from day-one will have everyone talking. Some may call this concept the rebirth of the FJ Cruiser. Others consider it a more adventurous cousin to the CH-R crossover. Whatever is to come, this Casualcore vehicle is made for Gen-Y city-dwellers with a wild side. The FT X4 is a Four-Wheel Drive with a TNGA C-Platform. It has been designed with what Toyota calls "rugged charm" and is most certainly inspired by our brand's iconic adventure vehicles. This crossover features high-function tactility which is emphasized on its user controls and touch points. The vehicle stands nearly 64-inches tall, is nearly 168-inches long, and has a wheelbase of almost 104-inches. The FT X4's form radiates sturdiness from front to back and top to bottom. It even has a GoPro® HERO5 SessionT camera built into the driver's side rearview mirror to capture every moment of its future drivers' adventures. This is most certainly the most exciting concept (soon to become a reality?) of the 2017 NYIAS.
